The Team
Cheerleading is a co-ed sport that performs routines utilizing elements of tumbling, dance, jumps, cheers, and stunting. Cheerleading is a year-round sport, starting with tryouts in the spring. The cheerleaders direct the crowd at sporting events to cheer on sports teams and compete at cheerleading competitions. Cheerleaders practice five days a week for about two hours each practice.
The cheerleaders cheer and perform at numerous events throughout the year such as, football and basketball games, school rallies, and special events on campus. The school spirit aspect of cheerleading involves cheering, supporting, and "pumping up" the crowd.

In addition to games and special events, the cheerleaders compete. Different cheerleading organizations host competitions.

2016-17 Competition Schedule
01/07/17 at Azusa Pacific University (Sharp)
01/15/17 at Brea Olinda High School (USA Regionals)
02/12/17 at Arroyo High School (Sharp)
03/24/17-03/26/17 at Anaheim Convention Center (USA Nationals)

The cheerleaders travel throughout the year to various events such as cheerleading camp, football and basketball games, and competitions.

Cheer hosts many fundraisers including the Cheerleading Clinic held during football and basketball seasons to help raise money for competitions and other miscellaneous costs. Cheerleading Clinics are open to children enrolled in kindergarten-8th grade. Participants will learn a dance to perform at the end of the first half of the game with the GHS cheerleaders. They will also participate in workshops to learn cheers and perfect their angles and jumps. Workshops, cheers, and dances are taught by the GHS cheerleaders. T-shirt, bow, and snack are provided. The basketball season cheer clinic date is TBD from 3:30 pm until halftime of the basketball game. Please contact Coach Ku for additional information.

As a reward for the team's hard work, each member of the varsity team earns a varsity letter given to them at the cheer banquet in the spring.
