hey welcome class of 2024! We are your Gabrielino counseling department welcome since we haven't had the chance to meet with you this year due to the school closure with a pandemic we wanted to have an opportunity to meet you guys so you can get to know us a little bit better and the different services that we offer as counseling department. So I'm going to go through it & introduce each counselor, first we have Miss Hagge and she is with last names a through g a o. And this is a fun little picture of us here, you've probably seen this picture a million times so miss Hagge is the one in the middle of the pink shirt, then we have Miss Bustamante who has the last names Garcia through Lubg, and she is to the left of Ms. Hagge in that picture with the blue shirt. Then we have Ms. Borja who is last name l u o through Shelton.  And Ms. Borja is the one on the far left with a pink shirt and the brown boots in the picture.  Then we have Ms. Ly who is to the right of Ms. Borja and she is last name s h e n through z.  And I am Mrs. Machado I work in the college and career center. I'm the one in the green shirt with a black pants and then to the right of me is Mr. Saporito and Mr. Saporito is our Wellness coordinator and our brand new Wellness Center that we are creating this year. Before we get started I just want to let you know that we will be answering questions along the way can you please utilize the Q&A feature that's at the bottom on your your bar it should be on the right hand side as Q&A and you answer any questions that you may have in there great and we will go ahead and get started with Miss Piggy so hi everybody I'm really excited to be here one of the things a chill kind of recognize about me is I'm a bit silly so here with a little bit of saline a lot of bit of love to give you guys I have some fun facts on the bottom of my screen I have a 7 year old son his name is Brendan and he's in second grade I have two dogs Mochi and Molly and my favorite things are a Starbucks and dipping sauces and anything with crunch like chips and the beach in the smell of vanilla I really look forward to meeting you guys I know that it's kind of a nerve-wracking time for you we are here to support you in any way that we can my cell phone number and the link to the email is there so please feel free to connect with any questions I look forward to meeting you and Brandon's there on the side if you want to see him have a great day so I think now it's Miss Bustamante your mutinous thank you mister Lopez all right I miss my dog cheatriots he is my office from in as a work-from-home so you often see him or hear him in the background I did create a Google Classroom so the code is there I hope you join me there I have some more information about me things to get to know me and I'll be posting some Get to Know You activities in there that I hope you participate in I look forward to meeting with you I know that it's a bit awkward that we haven't actually had a chance to meet in person when we were at least met you twice I would hope but feel free to either call text there's anything that I can help you with send me an email I try to make available all forms of communication whatever you feel comfortable with if you want video chat you want to talk to Hangouts but thank you for being here and if there's any questions let me know and I forgot who was next on the slide Miss Board hi everyone I missed for her and I want to welcome you here to Gabrielino I wish that I could meet you guys personally and I'm looking forward to that a little bit about myself I didn't perlino for 26 years so the interesting thing is that for some of your parents if they went to Gabrielino I might have been there counselor so you can always ask him that I had three older brothers I grew up in South San Gabriel I kind of grew up in the local area one of my biggest experiences that I really enjoyed was when I was 26 I backpacked through 11 countries European countries in 2 months and I opportunity because I studied abroad when I was in college and that's one of the things that I would encourage you guys all to do is to do a study abroad while you go to college I love all living creatures are my co-workers make fun of me because if the spider in the office I collect it and I take it outside because I don't want to kill it cockroaches I can't do that so don't ask me to go near those I have a dog his name is Dink I also have two outdoor cat some to Fish sushi and sashimi probably not appropriate and I love to feed I have a birds that come out and I feed them within squirrels come by and opossums and sometimes raccoons all in my backyard so it's like a little outdoor Zoo now I always encourage my students to practice self-care and part of that is getting 8 hours of sleep and I'm hoping that you're practicing some type of self care for yourself some of mine include like exercising reading taking fox in those things like that one thing that you'll know about me is I love collecting quote so it when you see my office you'll see a lot of quotes all over my office on the Windows things like that and I'm I sent you the links are there links there for some really positively present quotes that I enjoy their two links are my email address is also at the bottom and my phone number is there and if you guys can't see what this little quote is on here it says try not to compare your try not to compare your story to anyone else's focus on your own magic nice to meet you hello I miss Lee I feel like I really know for 5 years so it's kind of exciting I just want to walk him you guys and let you know that I'm really excited to be a part of your high school Journey I know black beans right now feel a little bit uncertain but I'm here to support you in whatever ways that I can you please feel free to reach out to me I feel like I've interacted with a lot of my 9th graders with an email or give me a call or send me a text message and then I'll get back to you I'm going to pass it on to mrs. Machado hi Eagles I'm a Summit Auto and I work in the College and Career Center a little bit about me is that I had two sons and I have baby on the way this year I may also have one dog named bear another boy so my house is full of boys and me and my husband of course and this year are College and Career Center is going virtual so I encourage you to join our goo classroom that included the code there and do our Naviance to send you can sign up for tons of our College visits that we have we host them on Wednesdays and after invented time so for example today we have five College visits going on in all grade levels are welcome to it unless otherwise noted is it like a college application Workshop this year we're hosting virtual college fair or is information sessions so please follow us on Instagram because I do post all that information on there for you to be able to access sign up to attend Bose we do have Rio Hondo Community College we have Outreach support from them and they do offer what's called a dual enrollment class and if you are at their Kinesiology Department those who this class we both are in high school and college credit by attending this class and it offered typically on campus but right now it's virtual and it's after school twice a week also when our Naviance system we do post all ship information I'll live a lot of this is for juniors yours there are some things every now and then there are for 9th graders would be sure to check out Naviance and I'm sure if you're mrs. Cruz's class right now you are working a lot in that system already another service that the College and Career Center offers his work permit so if you get hired work permit and we're able to help you with that application and it should work permit for you if you have any questions you could always send me an email and I said I encourage you to follow us on Instagram and also on Twitter and I'm going to hand it over to mr. Burrito hello everybody it's nice to meet you all I think some of you probably originally thought that I was going to be your counselor if you have a name at the end of the alphabet cuz I was interacting with you over this summer my God Has Changed we have a brand new Wellness Center that's coming on our campus soon and it's going to be a wonderful place where you and the students can come and just take a few minutes to kind of get your calm down a little bit and clear your mind a little bit and so we are in the process of building that room and constructing it and when it's ready to show I will definitely take you on a virtual tour and hopefully when we get back if you guys could actually come in and have a glass of tea or a cup of tea and sit and visit with me for awhile so in the meantime we have put the Virtua Wellness Center together and I think many of you have already seen this through your Wednesday activities that you can actually click on the link here and go to our Wellness Center and there's lots of activities on that Virtua Wellness Center there are videos there are quotes their recipes there's all sorts of different things games to play so if you ever want to kill some time and it want to come and let your mind kind of be free you are free to go to that Wellness Center and if you need to reach out to me I am available to everybody so again through that Wellness Center you can easily find my phone number my email and I just really look forward to seeing all of you eating all of you face to face and I hope that you're able to get through this time and just know that we are going to put High School back together again for you and we're going to get through this together so I look forward to meeting you and now I think we're going to go to some special links that might be important to you and each counter going to take a couple of these and taco these are actual links that when you get this presentation you'll be able to click on and see everything that were talking about so I think he's going to go first so we have academic support so what we'd like you to do is really focus on the attending your office hours with your teachers and Wednesday intervention and know that this this world out there is kind of hard to maneuver and I think your teachers are there to support you so if you're really struggling we really want to encourage you to attend the office hours from 2 to 3 and then the Wednesday interventions please seek out your teachers and ask them for help it's really important that you guys do what you can I'm because you know the semester is coming up and we want to get your grades up to where they need to be it will come up in December so just know that that it was grades are really important for you and then your Aeries Parent Portal if you need access to that please contact mr. we're areas will show you an up-to-date up-to-date information on your grades and it's important for you to be able to have access to that not only your parents but you as well so I'm please do that if you haven't already done so Mister Weir's email is you can click on to it and it linked to mr. we are so please do that famous Bustamante thank you so I'm going to talk a little bit about ASD is BAC stands for Associated student party it's your class president and vice president all the classes represented as well as other people that help run activities start the school again during this time right I know that we have to be physically distance from each other but we don't have to socially be distance from each other we can still interact and so if you haven't had a chance to look at the slide please be created for all our clubs that's a way for you to get involved so you can go through the sliders information about the Google Classroom I'm who to contact again may seem a little weird because you may not add a chance to meet everybody or just only know your class but I encourage you to take that risk go to a club meeting join check it out especially during this time where it's really important. we still are connected to each other even if we physically cannot be together the other thing that's on ASV is the student store so if you wanted to grab what we call Gap gear you can purchase. There microchip find your your one thing you really want to send your cuz it will get over chicken with got here if she starts buying everything but if you find something you really like that you want to represent your high school you can purchase it there do the students and other things that they're selling do the student store is there it's a it's a great way to show your class Spirit your school spirits and encourage you to check that out and see if there's a hang on there that you would like to purchase now we're going to talk about Athletics okay so I have Athletics in attendance but let me start with attendance first so with the tendons if you to be absent for either. Or day make sure that your parent contacts either Miss Lyon if you have the last names a through l or Mr weirwood last names M through Z so they can do it if you know ahead of time you're going to be absent you can do it the day before a couple of days before if you are going on a trip someplace during school then please notify them as well also if you are absent on the day you happen to be make sure that you email your teachers following your absence just so that you can pick up your homework or not pick up your homework but figure out what your homework is so that you don't get behind on that so with Athletics if we were in session in school in a we have the fall Sports we have the winter sports and we also have a spring Sports and if we were in session in person usually it would be 6 p.m. it is when the athletes meet those are the sports teams as well so if we were in regular session and you had to pay first. PE and you wanted to try out for a sport then we would end up changing your course into six. Athletics the other thing is that you do need the two years of PE or Athletics in order to graduate from high school so 20 credits but with Athletics the little bit different because it's 2.5 credits if you're in the Athletics program per quarter we have four quarters if you're doing PE we have the semesters and it's 5 credits so basically you're earning 10 credits of PE skin if you just click on that link rap lyrics I just want to show them that they can go to the Gabrielino website as well so this has all the information about the athletic packets team coaches I'm athletic booster information and soul also Mr Lopez is here to answer any questions at the very end particular to Athletics thank you all right so I'm text with counseling referrals and services so if you guys are ever feeling like you might need a little bit more support if you're struggling in your classes and feeling unmotivated or blue the pandemics got you a little bit down I would Bentley encourage you guys to reach out to your counselors and your counselors can help you fill out a counseling referral to connect you with a therapist in the next thing that I have is graduation and a through G requirements if you click on the links it'll tell you what you need in terms of high school graduation on typically it is 210 credit and you have to earn those credits in specific areas, and they are listed in that link and then for 8 she requirements is also pretty similar the a through G requirements is the courses that you would need to take to be eligible to apply for universities like house you play if you see a man universities in California and even outside of California so I would encourage you guys to check it out and then also reach out to your counselors if you guys have questions about the classes you're taking whether it's just for the purpose of high school graduation trying to be College eligible and next we have mrs. Machado so this year our lunch application to qualify for free reduced lunch has been moved on and it can be found on the district website by clicking on that link this year your parent must create the account and you must use your seven digit ID number you can access and access that information on your parent portal but if you're unable to find you can always e-mail us or even the attendance office and were able to provide that information for you we also have Naviance that they mentioned on my slide about are called and Chris are going virtual are Naviance system as a College and Career plan tool that all of our students use and your parents have access this information to I Really encourage you to get on there and start exploring you can do some career research about possible careers you be interested in start looking at colleges like I mentioned earlier you can set up College visit a sports scholarship opportunities and so much more you can create a resume in our Naviance system that can stay there I'm all four years you can update it along the way and make other ones as you need them props for different jobs are scholarships through along the way and also through our Naviance system you'll be receiving emails from me and also from This Is One Tattoo Works near College and Career Center and from your counselor and this will be any information that we think is relevant and important for you for your College and Career planning process if you have any you're unable to access your account you can always email me my emails linked on the College and Career Center slide you will use your sg-ssb with me. Net email to login there is a little forgot password you can sleep on enable send in school email address and email to reset your password if you ever forget your Facebook I'm in our last two resources thank you so one of the other things that I you on campus besides working the wellness center is I help run are pure helping program and many of you saw if you're helping as an option for an elective class to take and have some questions about what it was at this point the way you can access your helping if you feel like you would like to have a connection with somebody else on campus this would be an older students a junior or senior who would be willing to meet with you and kind of have coach you through high school and kind of talk to you about whatever it is that you that you feel comfortable talking to them about this program is available to everybody and it's super easy to access all you need to do is email me or mr. buddy who is the teacher and just ahead like to know a little bit more about this you're helping program or I'd like to get up here Helper and in basically we would set it up and this person would would pull you out of class but I'll be done electronically for this time. And then spend some time with you every couple weeks just checking in and seeing how you're doing conversations are confidential and in a lot of students just really feel like it's more comfortable for them to talk to somebody their own age and somebody who is in high school and ask questions about academics and relationships and things to do with it and just kind of whatever it is you're going through on a daily basis so if you're interested in having up your helper we absolutely start you out with that program you just let us know and I'm going to tell you it is a really great program in the students that do it really seemed to enjoy it the other things that I want to talk about which is linked here is the Wi-Fi a Technology support so we know that you're using a lot of Technology and we know that sometimes there's a lot of you on Wi-Fi at the same time maybe in your house or your computer is getting old and slow and so just know that we have Technology support for you if you need a laptop or you hotspot or you have a laptop and your laptop's not working then we can provide you that support and it's super easy and and so this link down here on this page will take you to the information page about how to ask support you can call in the phone number or you can send an email to request that support and we will do everything we can to help you and get you whatever technology you need to be successful and so we're going to move that was our last slide and I see that there has been some questions and I'm thankful that Mr Lopez is here because the first question are the actual Bowl questions that we have so far Mr Lopez are connected to sports and so if maybe you can take a few minutes and talk about what kind of sports were going to offer what the schedule is to offer Sports and kind of the overall plan that would be great okay so welcome Sports in and Athletics are going to be drastically different this year due to the pandemic so as we list things on our site there listed in the missional categories but that will be a posting on the website tomorrow and then we will have a Robocop going out about a meeting with parents on Wednesday October 28th the returned to practice with some of our programs and we have a lot of restrictions that we have to follow in regards to that so it's important if you're interested in the following sports that you would you attend that meeting and your parents attend that meeting the first for sports it will be offering for conditioning would be football cross country and girls and boys volleyball so those Sports will have an opportunity to meet in small groups to begin a conditioning program to re-acclimate ourselves so that we can get ready for school we have not been to go ahead given the go-ahead to actually play the sports but we can begin to start moving around so that we can prepare for each of those boards when we get the okay to eat to go so those are the first four first four sports that we can run and they begin in December and January and they will run through the end of February it's up to the County Office of Health weather can continue a tend to move to to indoor facilities but those practices would be outside and in small groups so I am encouraging again to 2 to log into our website they'll be in for me posted there and I'll have the details of what's needed to be able to come onto the campus and it'll have the process you would follow the most important thing that need to take place on that has you have to have a physical so you want to have a current physical. Has to be done before we would even consider bringing you back onto the campus and that will be explained in that meeting sorry is that answer the question I thank you in and what else a 2 to all of you just to add on to that is that your PE teacher can also be a resource for you to get information about athletic all of our PE teachers are coach and the two of our PE seeds are actually the athletic directors and so you can reach out to your PE teacher if you have additional questions and want to know kind of the schedule for all the sports when they're when they're schedule play and they can give you that information and when Mr Lopez says the things are posted on the website if you go to the website there is an athletic club on the website that you can click on before he showed it to you and when she was doing your presentation but you can click and get all the updated information there there's some old information that is so it'll be it'll be refreshed by this evening so then it'll have current information and I and I see that in the chatter asking which were Sports his tackle football girls and boys cross country girls and boys volleyball so volleyball is traditionally boys volleyball has traditionally been a Spring sport they move that forward and it's going to run at the same time as we run our girls volleyball program and then when other question and one of the things that I would like say is that this recording this this webinar is being recorded and it is going to be posted on in several places so we're going to ask every 9th grade teacher to post a recording of this weather with the link on the Google Classroom we are also going to post it on our gabino website so if you want to click on some of the links or you have friends that weren't able to come today are you forget any of the information it'll be posted in several places just give us until tomorrow to get this this up and out there so if you have any other questions you are welcome to ask them in the Q&A and we will answer them or if you want more information let me make one more because I I I think I saw something about switching classes the other the other thing that we've traditionally done it is put all of our athletes into a 6. Class and a we weren't able to identify students to do that so if you're not I am six. Athletics it will not exclude you from Athletics and we will not need to move your schedule we will arrange our practices around the six. Day so I know sometimes people get anxious that I'm not in the class and there will be no practice is taking place in that 6. Time it'll it'll happen outside of that so I wanted to make sure that you're okay if you're in in the sixth grade English class you still going to be able to get to the practice add one more thing to add that I forgot to mention on my slide is typically each year for 9th graders we offer field trips to different College throughout the year this year we're doing them virtual threading virtual life Taurus we had one last week for Cal State Fullerton and they were for 9th graders and then we have one coming up on December 9th to UC Santa Barbara and that will be a life virtual tour so that Mission I will be sent out probably around Thanksgiving around that time for you to be able to sign up to attend I forgot to mention that earlier so those are for 9th graders only I'm not seeing any more questions being posted so I think at this point I need for all the counselors in the administrators when when you say that you know this is not we wanted to meet you to start and we certainly look forward to the opportunity you all in person and have you all campus as soon as it is safe to do so we are working hard to make that happen as soon as they can possibly happen in the meantime we consider you part of our family you are an eagle and hopefully you now know some of the resources that you can access on campus and if you need anything at all any support any hair your counselors administrators teachers were all here for you and we definitely want to make sure you're straight and I don't know if any of the other counselors I miss you with everything they would like to stay I'll give you one last minute. There was a question to chat about sending an email about how to sign up for the Naviance College visit I'm so I can definitely send that out to all the 9th graders today walking them through how to do it also if you were in mrs. cruises next great condition course that is something she will or do you in there too but I'm more than happy to send that out today alright everybody I think we're good and so if you think of the last minute question and we've already ended this recording to shoot it out to your counselor or me or anybody involved and we will get you the answer to thank you all for coming
