good evening welcome to the Gabrielino athletic update meeting I give it another minute before we start a formal presentation to allow everybody time to get in the welcome and thank you for coming all right well good evening and welcome to the Gabrielino athletic update for the Gabrielino High School lyrics my name is Vince Lopez and I'm the athletic assistant principal in charge of Athletics are gathering the high school tonight I have a athletic director  scene and athletic director Melissa Lopez year update you as the status of Athletics in our region and what we as a high school or going to do in the next couple months regarding the fall and spring sports that have been designated by the CIA tonight we will have the ability to do translation and he will open up those those areas we have Representatives pure but that will give you directions and then we'll have revolver and then we'll continue to me Mandy if you again. choo choo Chinese thank you and Jackie Amanda just animals of sea on the tablet unless Espanol thank you okay I'm going to share my screen because there's going to be some documents I'd like to show you we are still waiting to Exhale translation function in you guys translate put me on translate thank you I'm sorry all right once again Sharon Heinrich is the principal of Gabon the high school I'm the assistant principal charge of athletic training and not just play sports but but different sports in different this part as well as Melissa Lopez this year that the the athletic calendar. Mood GIF this is the original calendar that was set out by the CIA so when we met back in November we talked about fall Sports in the fall Sports this year with those that are listed on the screen just to chat talk through this because when we get to the Spring sport it made me feel a little more sense but where it says first contest under each of the different sports that would be the first day that you could begin practice with that particular group the SOP is the start of play so what would contest you can have it in the lastly contest it is listed there as well because of the pandemic and and the different changes and what was happening in our community the CIF modified this the schedule and took out all of the the CIF state championships in the Southern California Championship we send move the end dates back so this is like I said the old calendar but when they move those two back the allowed us the ability to try and schedule some contest within those Sports so that we could at least have a league schedule that we could play some some games we just wouldn't have the postseason play so as you can see like these Sports were we're all given a specific date and and specific time when you to the spring Sports the same thing so right now a lot of sports. Condenser have got moved into this particular schedule so as it stands today these schedules have not changed so the start dates the first contest CIF championships are all still in play in regards to what CIF is demon the season of sport so as of today yeah we can still play a full season with each of the sports that being said the state of California has a tiered color system which allows weather allows regions to play based on the pandemic and impacted the community so this is the map that scif sent out weekly the last update was February 2nd and it goes county-by-county and it gives it a color designation if you look at this snap under widespread which is the purple chair Sports allowed across country golf snowboarding skiing swimming diving tennis and track and field so at this time the CIF in the state of California is allowing those Sports to be play but each County area has the control over what those parameters are but sue the state of California they tried to cheer each of those Sports and get and put them under the color chair for the State of California so there's four colors there's purple red orange and yellow and you can see the sports in a listing under each of those are so going back to that calendar if we look at this calendar the sport would have to be in that color coded area on the date that it began if they're not there then they have to get moved and that's what they did the fault so they moved by they canceled the the championship game so they could move the schedule back so they haven't done that yet with the spring Sports when one thing before I forget if you have questions you have to chew in a box you can send your questions into there and will answer those at the at the end of the presentation so the color tiers have to be present for us to continue to play those poor so they fall into that at 2 at the time that the games were scheduled can we come in for if not then we have to wait and see what the CIF is going to do and like I said in the fall with football girls volleyball and cross-country they move. games back because they eliminated the playoffs what they did with boys volleyball is it they moved boys volleyball to the spring season and created a new schedule because they wanted Define allow that support to continue because it was last year sheriff is also put down guidelines for each participant for the game set are going to be played so in this purple chair cost available to play but these are the recommendations and guidelines that are giving down by the Seattle and DC to be in place for you to have that the competition and then the competition in cross-country in this particular case cannot be more than a dual meet so can only be two schools that are competing against each other and then these modifications are these guidelines need to be followed they have this for every sport so I only put out the cross-country form I have this is the football and if you notice at the at the very beginning to give us the color code so football is under the orange interior and then girls volleyball game is under the orange chair I think it's important to understand that the dates that end in the seasonal Sports have been established by the CIF in regards to the fall they're very specific and they're not to move them so if we can't move to the orange chair for volleyball or two football in the time that they've designated a competition or season sport then we won't be able to play in those if we move to the orange in that time then we can we can move forward with competition so again we we got a ways to go to get to Orange so there may be an issue these are High School coaches are our coaches are our head coaches for each of the programs and you can send information to the athletic directors of most of them have email addresses and we back to make sure that those are on our website as well so eats of the coaches are responsible to set up their their athletic training practices football and cross-country of indicated that they are going to start of next week so you need to contact your coaches we were doing the athletic conditioning prior to Christmas break so in the month of December and we had started those practices and then we had suspended him for the the January but we will bring them back in in the same fashion that we had before the Christmas break so no larger groups in 10 have to answer the 50 questions and take your temperature before I want to feel you must have your own water and then you're not to share any equipment in the start to arrive by themselves not in groups and then they're supposed to leave immediately after the the practice and observe social disc sing the entire time they're on the campus I'm the designated spaces that they had before will be the same designated spaces this year so football be in the stadium and cross-country will be on the Bastille forward we will start to expand those opportunities that'll be up to eat to the individual coaches again we're at a facility challenge so we want to make sure that we are very deliberate in the time and and date that that students are coming onto campus so that we can minimize the interaction but as we move again through the tears then the competition's will will start to open up and then we will make sure that we are in contact in love will talk about how we would get two games or how competitions would be conducted once we get to that point but right now we're not we're not there some other information the Mission Valley is the lead that we compete in for most of our Sports and the Mission Valley league if you know if you read the paper has canceled their fall Sports they're not having a girls volleyball cross-country or football this fall they're going to focus on the spring Sports so that's put us in a little bit of a tough situation because most of our plans and I think most of the League's around this have zero DNR trying to get to reschedule then and now we don't have to leave so we're in contact with other leagues to try and see if there is a way that we can work and so that we could have competitions and we're looking for brother schools that may or may not have programs Marshall High School which is a member of the Mission Valley is it still I think I'm hoping for more competitions to work work work work exploring how we might do that, but we need to get a clearance nations from the county office of health and see what we can do as far as competition I know that there's been some conversations about virtual competition and yes we are exploring those opportunities as well so where we're trying to do whatever we can to provide an environment where we do have competition with other schools we can are within our own call them see if that's all week we can put together I'm just a quick update on cheer we will have a cheer information meeting next Tuesday we will post the flyer on the website call and then it'll go out on a Naviance account until anyone is interested in participating and share that information that game will be available on Tuesday we will not have competition chair the CIA is as suspended the the competition cheer programs but we will have sideline cheer so that that information and and what we need to do in regards to establishing that group and identifying those pins will be talked about in that Tuesday meeting all right what's the price of Coach saying if I do I need to get everything or am I good okay so I think there are questions and answers I'm going to hand this over to to coach seinen at some of those and then he can get those responses okay so going over some of the questions that that we received already I turn it on someone that were kind of specific but I'll still go over some of the questions are you know when are we going to first of all do we have fall Sports we have the original fall Sports which were start in August and September obviously got postponed we didn't have any sports during any of that time we started doing conditioning practices in December because covid-19 started going up we had to cancel add those practices those conditioning practices in the month of January and now we're starting fall Sports again because the only sport that's being allowed to participate right now because purple tier is cross country they will be starting on Monday if it if you guys have questions about cross-country and are boys and girls cross-country you can contact coach cam burning or mrs. Gonzalez are the two head coaches for cross-country and Melville kind of let you know when they're practicing and put you in a pod for practice another question we had is we do not have boys water polo someone had a question about water polo we don't feel that sport freshman that are not on teams will have announcements on campus when when this specific teams that do have tryouts basketball has tryouts baseball have tryouts soccer has tryouts volleyball has tryouts track has tried so when all those when we were allowed to do those Sports the coaches will have stuff up on the school website for us to go on tryouts of freshmen will have that opportunity to try out and kind of the same thing when will boys start when we're allowed to start practicing send the specific practices will be announced on the school website so that way I please can can do that if you're interested in a sport they can contact the individual sport that'll help I'm Mr Lopez one of the questions also was will we be able to put the forms that you were putting up will they have access to those can we put those on the school website yeah recording this meeting so all of the documentation the meeting will be more specifically is like the Catskills forms on to the school website be easier for gulfstar same thing once one so that's season of sport Swanson will will determine when they're going to be starting coach Steve Swanson's The Voice coach and Coach Chris saporito will be doing the girls golf this year so the schedules will be put up later there's another question about that one let me hear the girls basketball that we do not have any girls basketball tryouts yet we're not even allowed to to go in and start dribbling basketball do summer camp any of that stuff anything for next year there is there's nothing for basketball yet you'll be contacted or that information will go up by coach John Carney The Voice coach or coach Desiree rest for the girls basketball let me go down there more Sarah let me see you swim swim there the question is why is 20va at this time think we're we're trying to figure out when we can get to the pool and if the city is going to allow us to go and start practicing that will be a Spring sport so where we're going to be waiting for that to begin yes in order to tryout for any sport you would have to go to the school website or go directly to athleticclearance.com so that you can have physical and all the athletic paperwork taken care of that would include like a physical include emergency contact whole bunch of information it's all self-explanatory athleticclearance.com and they do need to have that completed before they try out but yeah let me know so I can answer some of the the trial questions so the tryouts will be determined by the coach as we get closer to the Season Sports a lot of the sports won't begin until March so right now we're again trying to make sure that we have access to psi and then how would students get to those facilities and then what timeline we would need to put together to identify those students for those particular Sports so I know it is difficult that we don't have real hard date and and that's really again but the county is is is going to give us that direction so we haven't moved out of the purple chair for quite some time we we just had the surgery so I think it's difficult to predict when that that might occur but he participated in our athletic conditioning program yeah you have to have all the paperwork filled out and the six. Time slot is is not an issue because I'll practices will be conducted after the end of the day so it would be out spread on the days that we had six. And be after V. On those other days so we're not going to make program changes based on whether you're on the team or not and again talking about summer yeah we have to wait see what we are allowed to do in regards to a facilities are sports when we get to the summer alright so so continuing here we have a question as to whether or not are our softball coaches are for doing interviews what we're going to be doing is a coach Robert Meza Lopez can you help me with Robert's last name Cardenas Cardenas is going to be our interim softball coach he was on the staff last year and and he'll be doing it this year so we're starting there trials for golf again coach Austin will put out that information there's a question here about swimming and if there's going to be a season of The Swim is in the purple chair but it's also in the spring season right now we're in the fall season that that should be starting in probably next month softball so the question about softball yet it hasn't started and that will also in softball will be in the in the red chair so we will be waiting to get cleared up there before they can start having full practices that we do not have any solid schedules Pirelli County because there are number one the schedules that we used to have with the Mission Valley League all got canceled for the false so the only games that were going after right now or football and cross-country that were trying to schedule events for them and everything else in the Spring sport so far the Valley league has is still going on and if they canceled during that season then we would be searching for schedules for all those Sports of soccer, same thing? Soccer soccer soccer is in our is in the orange tear and will have tryouts when when they all get clear to to begin Islander Sports is that mean we will ask the question is if a sports in the purple tier does that mean that we will have a season as of right now yes cross-country in the fall in the purple tier we are moving on with that season is softball going to start and not yet but but hopefully they'll be starting soon right now they're only Allah are allowed to start conditioning practices they can't go on and start with full practices with everything else there's a question about other schools have been practicing for three months it could be other schools in other counties and Wake County we weren't supposed to soak abelinos following the rules at the advice of the county I'm so we have not done things you know out of are are are allowable times yesterday. It can join swim we have has not started yet answer the question about the softball coach swimming swimming again is in the is in the purple tier so they will they will be beginning for full-contact sports like football and other sports I'm not sure what the other part of that question was but football is is going to be in the orange chair and we're going to have to do a lot I'm in The Cove at cases or clearing up which great and hopefully they continue to do so so that we can I get some of those Sports going but contact Sports yeah they're they're in a lot of the bear in the orange and yellow tears especially the indoor I like basketball and volleyball another question that was asked earlier was can you be dual sport players and I think it was a golf and swimmer golfing and another Sport and then the answer would be yes this year we're trying to do everything we can to make that work and we will work with our coaches the only thing is I was asking you to think that we could do that every year because we're in a different situation and schedules have been staggered so that there may be more opportunities to do that but we've talked to her coaches to have conversations because now sports are in Conflict at not been in Conflict but if call is in conflict with another sport that's in the same season of sport that could be an issue next year but I think this year yeah the the Gulf program is in the purple chair so they'll be a better opportunity for golf to continue I'm not sure about the other sports and then the other the other sport that I'd like to talk about that I think is going to be very difficult is girls volleyball so girls volleyball call under the orange modern tier so that's two to two years away and the volleyball season was too started in the next couple of weeks that we can have amount of time to get games in and enough practice time the final date to play girls volleyball is March 20th so it's going to be very difficult to get that that that 40 and it's going to be difficult to get to the orange chair which makes it allowable and it's going to be difficult than to have enough weeks for it for competition so Coach Chow is opening up a virtual workout time we were doing girls volleyball practices here or conditioning prior to the Christmas break I'm he is willing to continue to do that we'll make that information available but I coached and says anything that is indoors is going to be very problematic this year I'm basketball is all the way out into the yellow chair which is the last wrestling is in the last year those are to close contact sports that are indoors volleyball because it's indoors but they're on different sides of the net had a little bit of a better opportunity but we anticipate having the volleyball season on top of that the Mission Valley has decided not to carry those program so we have to try and find the leak and right now these are not continuing their the girls volleyball program because of that that time constraints and CIF is indicated that they won't move that date so March 20th is is a hard number are hard date and for us to be how to get enough time into practice and then to actually have competition is is going to be very challenging so it seems we have to change dramatically in the next couple weeks which I don't anticipate two chairs the allowing of people to enter inside so I know that's not what people want to hear in and they don't like that and like I said we're trying to do everything we can to to get those for sign and footballs is I've been hearing that that similar situation where they're just going to run out of time and we have to move to the orange cheer there and date though as all the way into April so they have an April 17th date so that's why they have more flexibility in regards to trying to continue in that in that sport a season but that is a CIF decision that that is in our so I wanted to make sure that we addressed that so there's another question is about virtual tryouts that other schools are doing as a coach should be very difficult to evaluate kids athletic ability over soon so yeah it's not something that we that we talked about but it's something that I can mention of the coach and and that would be on a team by team basis and we would leave that up to the coach whether or not they try or be interested in that yes we would prefer that all physicals and paper get completed before I know some people have had trouble getting all that information on TD athleticclearance.com so if you try sooner it'll be a lot easier you won't be panicking the last minute of the day before practice is begin so the sooner you can do that better and if you haven't had a physical or your son or daughter is not had a physical and trying to schedule those now would be great what's up I'm not sure will girls plane travel softball have to go dark yes a CIF recently came out and said that we can do travel and high school simultaneously they rescinded that and teens it doesn't matter the sport whether it's soccer softball or basketball athletes will have to do one or the other so they cannot do both simultaneously they can do it before and they could do it after but not at the same time a baseball the question is with tears baseball in baseball and softball are in the Red Deer coaches will get back to Native if they want to get back new there's not a mandate right now saying that every coach has to get vaccinated before they they go out that that's will be on a case-by-case basis out we give all of our Sports the same opportunity and focus we are we are not prioritizing one over another because volleyball does not have a league right now I know Chris Lopez mention that they they just because the Mission Valley League doesn't have or they're not participating in the fall doesn't mean that we won't be trying to get those in so yeah we we will Mission Valley you're not we'll be trying to get games for teams let's see yes we have the approval from our district to begin Sports basketball the teams have to be in their color tear before they can begin full practice has and competition so they did come out and do some conditioning but for them to actually be indoors like for basketball to specific question the basketball we need to get cleared up a lot before we get inside and start sharing basket and playing indoors Terrier yes we hope to have all of our coaches and place yes we we hope be participating in all sports that are allowed the coach will decide when they will begin their practices I don't have an answer as to why some sports or indifferent that was a decision by a CIF are governing body we do not do that again I will answer if you have to do paperwork you can go to the website and its athletic clearance dot-com if you want to do the paperwork this meeting at someone showed up late for the meeting it's all being recorded and it will be replayed if you arrive late track is in the purple tier so track when when spring Sports begin it will be able to go on again when track starts it will have limitations I think they're not going to be doing any of the Blaze and CIF will have other stuff as the season begins so yes Sports can begin conditioning so that'll be up to the coaches this to maybe Ken soccer same thing soccer will be in the orange cheer so we'll have tryouts later on returning athletes do have to get cleared yes originally CIF it said that they did not need a physical but that was back in November and they didn't need one after that so yes before any competitions give me to be cleared completely with a physical and a that clearance completed before they can practice we are trying to do what we can for athletes I'm not sure what else we can do we cannot be outside right now so we will we're trying to work and get as much as we can out for athletes depending on the sport you will have tryouts if you're an athlete and you're choosing not to do a sport but you want to stay in athletic conditioning yeah I think you can stand there at that would have to be I'll be up to the coach I think Miss Lopez because we're not currently you're just playing with our Athletic program of the sixth grade class if you are identified in that in a particular sport you just to stay with that teacher and you would receive that grade in your PE as a PE class you are not looking to move students into that. Or out of that. We're just going to treat it as a physical education class and again I know there's a lot of questions about tryouts and teams I think we're trying to determine just how many students are are interested in participating teams in the past have been determined by trials but we may not have trials because we will keep all all students who are interested based on the numbers because there may be illness or are maybe some some mood movement there and we make cherry larger team so it's hard to to to to say exactly what that looks like because it isn't like ears but everything what will get posted on the website and we will utilize our Naviance account to get information out and we will try to get there as fast as we can we have coaches at that work off campus that we are trying to make sure that they are still in a position where they can work with us in and take care of whatever responsibilities do you have some of the TVA is there we just haven't got that confirm so it doesn't mean that we're not going to have that problem it's just we're still trying to determine their their status so we are committed to try and play every sport that we're able play safely and then in with proper supervision and coaching for each of those parts so I just want to make sure everybody we are absolutely committed to trying to get games weather Arley continues or not we have to get other games we will do that if a virtual format works for that particular sport get and then we will explore that as well I know I've heard young suggestion for you you play a competition they play their competition someplace else and then you just prepare the time yeah we're looking at every possibility and if those are the things that that can be worked out we are absolutely I'm going to explore that again try to do everything we can provide that that competition and to allow our students to have an athletic season and I again I think she'll Yap and the LA County Office of Health a lot to say and and they're the ones that we are bound by so as soon as we get those those updates and those changes we will relay that to our our staff and then we'll get that information out to you as fast as possible I don't know and I don't see any weather questions there was one do they have to do paperwork every year by yes there there's a paper that has to be done every year because conditions change and athletes change it so we want to make sure that that gets Jen we do require the physicals of physicals if the doctors willing to sign the physical with a virtual appointment then we would accept that doesn't have to be in person if the doctor feels comfortable doing it that way and I think that's it mister Lopez is it possible to have traditional child sore as before can we pay her adjusted at what I think we're looking to 2 make it work and in whatever way we can solve it if it if it worse to have a different type of try out I think we will explore that we are again interested in trying to get as many participants as possible and then make sure that our students are safe and that the teams are in numbers that are manageable and and and meet the the health concerns of the venue and have the facility and of the locations that we would participate so yeah we we are absolutely looking at all possibilities in in like I said format and then there's the question is since there's no swim team do I have to turn in paperwork at there will be swimming so yes that you will have to pay for it to participate and there was one here talking about if we can do stuff in case of Seasons get canceled we are still intending on having the season so if they if we don't then yeah we will be looking for ways to acknowledge all of our athletes and then that's all I have their Crystal okay again we just wanted to update you as to 2 weather app I will put all those documents on our website you can go to the CIF website CIF Southern section RSS and all of that information is on their website and like I said they have a weekly map that they post with the color tiers the schedules in the time it in the beginning of each of the seasons Jose and then those can adjust it so if in the month of March were still in the surge type of environment and they don't move the color out of the county than CIF salmon and change the dates because they may eliminate some of the playoffs to allow for more time and when that gets published and we will make those adjustments as well with a standstill we're looking at the schedule as it's been provided and like I said it's located on the website and we'll post it on our website and will continue to to put any changes up on our our website and send it to Naviance informant alright I would like to thank everyone for for checking in with us if you have additional questions or concerns you can you can send an email to myself quotes Lopez arcoxia it's our last name underscore with their first initial at sgusd.
