hello everyone I know we're starting late so I apologize for that just a little technical difficulty here but I did want to talk to you guys a little bit whoever could join us today and I know it said mandatory but I wanted to make sure that you got some information regarding your AP exam now the information I'm going to be giving you today is pretty much nothing that you cannot find yourself I'm trying to just make it as simple as possible for you guys to navigate this process right now to begin with we needed to make sure that you guys had the digital testing app right and there's two ways to look at that the first way to look at that as whether or not you guys have your own no laptops at home or desktops and whether or not you guys have school issued Chromebooks and so for all the students are taking our AP exam there's about 634 View our students roughly half of you guys have school issue Chromebooks which is excellent right and so recently this past Monday or Tuesday we actually rolled out. testing app so for the students for all of you actually Wolfenstein to have Chromebooks there's a couple things you got to make sure K and one of the things you got to make sure of is that you have the right computer so your computer I'm not your computer but your Chromebook has to be at a 83 or higher operating system now that might make sense to some of you that might make sense not a lot of you but if you were to hit alt V on your computer on your laundry Chromebook let me be straight on your Chromebook at the top right corner of the screen you will see a bunch of numbers and codes right the first number you 60 is a two digit number hopefully that number is the number 83 or higher if it's a number 83 or higher on a Chromebook you are good to go and you'll be able to take the AP successfully if for whatever reason that number is below and 83 you will have to come in and exchanged your Chromebook then now one of the questions that I've had no go through some of the questions to that you submitted to me is when can you exchange the Chromebooks are response right now is as soon as possible so starting today even for some of you I had you guys come in a couple days ago from 8 or 8:30 to about 3:30 we want you guys to be able to come in to exchange your Chromebooks prior to any exams okay. If you've been identified as those who need new Chromebooks and the other piece in terms of that I wanted to pull up a list really quick just so just so we're all on the same page game give me a second here so I'm going to read just a quick list of names gigili Tracy ma William Jafari Lauren shunkan long Kevin Truong Ricky yeah Adrian Tren Nyla tuminez Thomas you Amelie or Jamilla Lee Kyle Chun Samantha old is Jocelyn Galicia Ashley Sanchez villena young my Cerrado Dulce Ortiz Torres and Kyle trong you need to come in and change your Chromebook because we've already identified that you have the older version so you're probably not picking up the app that was sent out IIT okay so that's really important for you guys to come in as soon as possible to try to get that by the way I noticed that there's a hundred 62 participants here so obviously that's not everyone who's taking exams please please make sure that you let your friends know these particular things as well because we're not in person right now so I wanted to make sure that you understood just some of the basics when it comes to downloading app if you need to download the app game so once you guys have logged in not logged in but it's a button in your apps where it says 2021 digital testing day peegs am or something like that and there's a little buzz a little icon of an acorn okay that's the College Board logo you're going to hit that on your Chromebook and that's in the bottom left-hand corner for your Chromebook I'm not sure where that could be on your laptop or desktop at home you're going to get to the screen right here that this 2021 digital AP exam and you're going to sign into your account and these are things that you can do we want you to start doing these things now and kind of testing out just the general system making sure that these things these basic things work for you once you get to that scream you logged in you're going to get to this one right now it says three days before test day you're going to complete exam set up so that means what it means three days prior or even two days prior you're going to go to the scream here and you're going to make sure you see the all the tests that you're taking so for instance right here it's his AP biology exam it gives the test date and it gives the start time that you hit that button start exam setup that's critical to do prior to the actual test date and you must complete this exam set up for every digital AP exam you take so some of you out there taking seven exams so you'll have on your screen here rather than just the bio you'll have bio APUSH Abe's all kinds of stuff there you need to make sure you hit that yellow button right there that starts exam set up that's critical Kay on the day of the test right so 30 minutes before your exam you're going to check in right in this is highly important right now so 30 minutes before the exam start time you launch the app and check in for your exam will review some of the Privacy policies they're talking about with security and get ready to just test and it's important you to check in on time now it says here you won't be able to check in once your exam starts that is critical so a lot if not all of it at some point is going to be upon you to make sure you're watching the time paying attention to what you need to do prior just prior to the exam I would not wake up late that day make sure that the night before your exam and you guys know this cuz you're great students that you want to make sure you get that good night sleep and check things prior to even in the morning so after that you're going to see the digital test security statement you guys will have to basically type that exact passage in yourself you can't cut and paste so it says lockdown mode here so right before the exam Begins the Apple lock your device and you'll need to close all other application if you have other apps open if you have other screens open it may prevent you from taking the test so you want to make sure that that's done after that digital exam will start automatically at the time you'll be given and as you can see here at the top of the screen here it says testing begins in three minutes and two seconds right here that's what you will see to prepare you for the countdown until you take the test I know that nerve-wracking I know that's a lot of information to hold onto but still at the same time you got to pay attention to this very key details here okay you'll be able to annotate in some of the test here you can highlight any part of the passage but you have to organize your thoughts okay you may get a reference sheet as well depending on what test your taking and I wanted to go down just a little bit here okay you will be given breaks during the test so it will tell you when a breaks coming and it'll tell you how long the break is please make sure that you guys pay attention to those times so you need to the restroom or grab a water something then you'll be fine to do so okay it's also important to know that during these tests and you guys may remember this from last year but certainly this year you can't go back to questions so that's one of the security features that college board has tried to infuse into their testing system so that prevents you from working or going back to some once you may have gotten an answer for it so once you move forward that's it be really careful and what you do and watch your time okay now at the end of the test right and by the way I am recording this webinar right here I'm giving you as much information as I can and I'll get it out to you as quickly as possible once you're done with the test and you've submitted it you want to see the screen Jose testing stand by and we'll talk about uploading the answers right to the system after that it'll say congratulations once it's been uploaded exam is over your done all that hard work has paid off now you can move on with what where else you need to move on to okay if for whatever reason it wasn't submitted complete this will pop up and I'll ask you to try again now this is really important because a lot of the questions that you guys asked what happens if you run into glitches right and typically the biggest pieces you guys may run into technical glitches and Technical glitches at times are things that are out of our hands no doubt of my hands is even out of our hearts it will McCarthy's hands as well right so what do you do in that case you're going to want to make sure you try to reconnect to the Wi-Fi if you guys get disconnected whatever reason to your Wi-Fi your test will be saved it actually will be saved according to collegeboard it'll be saved for a couple of days right now does that mean you can go right back to it and start up possibly the College Board hasn't directly come out and said that but I want you guys to know that there's an option right also want you guys to know that if you happen to reopen right so if you're online I'm in your submission still fails close the app and open it again you're going to have to troubleshoot a little bit on your own to attempt to get back into it so that you can submit now the last part in here and on the screen it says is contact us right now you have to know this and I've been on with the phone with college board for days just trying to square things away just trying to iron out some wrinkles so make sure that you have some we're near you when you're testing the number to college board now it's really hard to kind of imagine that there's this big giant company out there who's going to help you immediately in that safe to say it might not but you need to make sure that for whatever reason if it just completely fails right don't panic don't Fred it's probably easier said than done but know that you're going to have that option to read out to college board in contact them so I would make sure you have you posted on your computer somewhere in your room or wherever you're taking this to ensure that you reach out to them now in terms of questions I want to go in and I apologize if I'm rushing through a lot of it but I want to make sure that I get to as much as possible I want to take a look at some of the questions that were submitted here okay so give me 1 seconds what are the questions submitted wolf will there be dividers to prevent the spread of covid-19 no there will not be dividers to spread the covid spread covid and one of the reasons there won't be dividers is because you guys are taking this test virtually which also means remotely you will guys will be taking this test from home or from wherever you're at okay sold for those students for those seniors or Juniors or 10th grade students or whomever or here on campus right now during hybrid you will be required to stay home that day to test the only students will be testing on campus will be our AP Chinese students and our AP English language students and our AP Literature students are the only students will be testing in person on campus and they will get more information on that as we approach the date of testing which I believe is June 4th so you will get more info on that for sure okay the next thing and I know that you guys might have questions I have about fifty five questions that were submitted here I know somehow some way I'm going to get to some of them and if I don't certainly you can email me about them and I'll try to get back to you as soon as possible the other thing is we talked about the internet going down right so you will have time to get back in it'll save that contact college board if you need to and by all means you can contact us to we might not the answers the College Board will have but we'll try our best to troubleshoot and get through it and then so another question is just to double-check is this going to be a full-length exam yes this is going to be a full length exam so these dams are timed out for about three at least three and a half hours a piece that doesn't mean you're going to use that amount of time okay but you guys will have that amount of time to take the test for students who are taking the test right how will we be accounted for in terms of attendance what we're going to do for you guys is the day that you're taking the test we're going to identify each and every single one of you as to where you're taking the test what time during the day and the date that you're taking the test and we will make sure that we Mark you out for that day so we don't want you to worry about having to log into class and want you to be worried read about making sure that you successively take your AP exam so for students who are concerned about attendance we will take care of that all do not worry about that when we have your names we have the list already you go with that okay now if we're taking the ABC AP exam in person like languages do we need to bring anything and what time should we show up at for all of your test for every single one of them sheer in person at school or if it's at home remotely please login or show up quote on quote show up 30 minutes prior you must do this game do we need to use School Chromebooks for the I just going back to this you do not need to use School Chromebooks if you have a laptop at home if you have a Mac at home something that's running windows at home you're fine the only thing that College status is that you cannot use your own personal Chromebook so if you do have a personal Chromebook the best thing you can do is come down to the school between now and the time you test as soon as I'm picking up a school-issued Chromebook that's only if you have a Chromebook that's your personal Chromebook okay I hope that makes sense in and a lot of this is online and a lot of is very convoluted is sick to redo and it's stick to understand sometimes but I wanted you guys to understand that we understand the pain that you're going through to with a lot of this as well one of the questions they came up is this going to be guided by the way if we're running late here why will email your teachers and left let you know what we're running late okay just FYI one of the questions just with a cameras have to be on on your Chromebook No No cameras have to be on it would make sense if your camera was on but even then if your camera was on how would anyone detect that to you right doesn't make sense so you guys do not have to have any cameras on What's the another question for the AP Chinese test will there be a traditional Mandarin keyboard installed on the school Chromebook no you will have just your traditional keyboard on them what happens if you see example in Earth with our finals to another big question is how is this going to work with are AP exams closer to June in late may this year and how is that going to run into finals so we've already spoke to your teachers about how your teachers need to sort of plan ahead to make sure that they're giving their finals at are on a particular date and time and making sure that they're working with you they're going to be working with you directly is the student to accommodate when you guys will be doing a pee test and when you guys will be doing your final exams so that's something that you should not be worried about if it's not pick one or the other you will absolutely have every opportunity to take both of them okay now one of the other things here I see is hold on one second how can I cancel my AP test so one of the ways that you want to cancel your AP test if you need to write and I encourage you to think a few different times about this is you can email me directly right and then we can cancel that now another question was what when are we going to get our refunds for that I want to make sure that we put refunds off to the very end of school so sometime in June would be the time when we would be doing any kind of reef gay just so you know mr. McCarthy can you hear me yes can you hear me yes mr. McCarthy we've started late so we really really short on time can you just quickly briefly talked to the students about Chromebooks and and operating system just really quick sure so good morning everyone I'm sure a lot of you have questions and I hope that mr. G and myself can help out so real quick couple things you want to get down is for the Chromebook or did you guys have a lot of questions on that so one we need to check to make sure what version of Chrome OS you guys are running on the Chromebooks the very simple way to check is if you are turning on your Chromebook instead of logging in you will hit the off and the B button at the same time and you should see the Chrome OS version appear on the top right-hand corner and it will tell you what version you're looking for the version we're looking for is anything that's 83 or higher so if it's anything from 82 or lower you will need to come in and exchange for a newer Chromebook okay one other thing to a lot of information has been going around and you guys are not actually going to be logging in the Chromebook itself is going to there's a mold called kiosk mode and that's actually the mode that happens when you open up the Chromebooks or right before you sign in so the bottom left-hand corner you should see to button you can see a power button that says shut down and then a button that says apps you'll be clicking on the apps and you should see the college board AP exam button so if you're the if you're the one shake taking the Chinese example of say the Chinese exam Ilse egpc or some other like that and then for any other AP test you should see 2021 digital AP exams if you guys do not those applications on your Chromebook try restarting the Chromebook by just turning it off and on if you still don't see a pop-up then reach out to me on my email which you can find on our school website and contact me and let me know when you guys can come in to do an exchange for that but for the most part that's what we're looking for guys you're not going to be signing into the Chromebook there's nothing that you guys need to download if it's on a Chromebook if it's on a personal device that that's kind of up to you guys to make sure that you guys have the right requirements and that is all that information on the requirements for personal devices are on College boards website so you guys can navigate. And find out thank you mr. McCarthy I appreciate that I wanted to get back to some more questions that our students had here I want to be very aware of the time to that we have so some stuff come up in the chat if you have an Acer from Everly no High School the Easter will be supported if you're using a personal Chromebook right and in this means that if you went out and bought a Chromebook for your personal use that's not a school manage device School manage means that it's a Chromebook that you got from Gabrielino High School I don't know what the requirements for personal Chromebooks are for for college boards examination again if it's personal you guys will have to go to their website and navigate the system requirements for that and that's what I would say for personal Chromebooks because from the information me and mr. G had. it's a four if you taken a test on school manage Chromebooks so I want to make sure that there's some clarification there if it says School are Chromebooks here from lino so any Acer that we just recently I didn't know if any students received those for check out those will be supported for AP testing and any other Chromebook that we hand out here I got what we know would also be supported for college board testing now if the OS is older like I mentioned previous 82 or lower you will need to come in and exchange for a new work phone book so I hope I hope that clears up some clarification there I want to take a look at some of the questions in the Q&A says when I chose to take a practical exam there about 7 slides to read before starting the test and one of the slide said that my price is not compatible steak the real online test and believe my device at the requirements that were listed on the College Board website like we said please trying to troubleshoot on your own do the control. Started the Auto V take you to take a look to see if that's the case if there is a problem okay my suggestion is come down bring it down to the school we have plenty of time to troubleshoot the problem is going to be if you wait we'll run out of time to troubleshoot the right now is the time to do it okay next question here is his will students in the Virtual Academy enrolled in the courses you just mentioned have to come in for the same person only only the tests that I mentioned guys so that is AP Spanish language they speak Spanish lit and AP Chinese that is the only one that you'll be coming into and do we need to attend our class after our test day we end at 12:30 do we need to 10 6. My answer is going to be yes okay yes so even though you guys will be marked out for that during that day we still need you to attend class it's not a free day even though you're probably going to be exhausted I do think your teachers will understand why Mr McCarthy is his new use a personal MacBook so if you're at home or some of the vices are at your guys discretion you if you have a school-issued Chromebook that you if you're one of the cohort students that come onto campus and you had me issued a school Chromebook but you have a personal device if you're at home and taking the test then the answer is yes you can use that way it's up to you guys to make sure that you have the requirements met for the College Board examination so if it's coming on to campus to do that in person exam Haitian we will have school issue Chromebooks for you guys to use for that test thank you mr. McCarthy in terms of returning the Chromebooks obviously if you're using a Chromebook as well as you'd Chromebook for your test we don't want you to turn it in you will be able to turn it in after we take all of our AP exam and you'll get more details about that but please do not turn them in yet you're going to need them for the test okay I miss you if there's any other things that I missed hearing the questions that some of you guys submitted to meet earlier now one of those by the way one of the things that Mr McCarthy and I were talking about is just the basic things that you might not think about when you're taking a test you're dealing with technology right the best thing and Miss McCarthy correct me if I'm wrong here is to make sure that you guys have your laptops in your devices are Chromebooks plugged in the entire time because the last you guys want to do is run out of a battery and then you really hit panic mode okay so we suggest that this is an examination that you guys are taking so this is are your guys's benefit not you know for for me for say so in that sense what you would want to do is make sure that you have all your t's crossed and I's dotted so you know make sure that you know you're doing the prep that is needed so charging Chromebook before taking the test making sure about during the best at you just keep it plugged in we suggest that because sometimes the batteries can either try running low during the test even if it hasn't fully charged I mean there could be a number of reasons why something can go wrong but want to make sure that we eliminate as many of those possible interactions possible so yeah making sure you're probably just charge one making sure that if you're going to dedicate the time to take this test make sure to have your your technology set up so that means making sure the Chromebook is on and running making sure the charger is connected properly and making sure that is that way we can eliminate as many variables as possible so another question just really quick I'm starting to run down on time here are we allowed to use open Notes the answer is no you cannot use open notes on this and what I was learning from the College Board in just going to take look at some of the videos that they were putting out was there trying to design for test security purposes right there trying to design the questions in a way that it would be difficult to just Exchange answers from some type of open Notes right I think a lot of it has to do with the honor System of course but at the same time this is not an open note open book test okay if there's anything you'll be provided with from college board on your test you will get those documents attached to your test no one really important pieces right here on this screen I wanted to show you guys as you can see you have your digital practice exams I would start looking at the digital practice exams just to make sure you're familiar with the format of the quest in the format of Joe the screen and how to navigate through this part of the test so please start using digital practice test if you haven't already I think that's really important let me go up to the qna we have a couple more should I bring my Chromebook if the college at Board app does not show up if you've gone through all the steps that we've given you and I don't know Miss McCarthy if you mentioned this but make sure that you reboot maybe do a hard shutdown on your computer started up again and see if it appears there was a for the 2021 AP exams or the Chromebooks near on gaberinos campus so if you're one of those students that are virtual there is a possibility that maybe you caught it and maybe just haven't had a chance to turn it back but what we would suggest that you guys do is turn off the Chromebook and turn it back on wait for everything to load up in the kiosk mode basic prompt to come up check your apps and then if it's not there then reach out to me through our school website and we can set you a time to come by and pick up a Chromebook but also make sure that you know you have your Chrome OS version updated to like I said earlier hitting all Envy at the before you sign in on into the Chromebook will show you that from a wife right hand top corner so yeah we want to make sure that you guys have those make sure you guys are checking those steps first before requesting exchange all of us don't meet the requirements if its 82 or lower or if it doesn't have that stuff after rebooting definitely reach out and set up an appointment to exchange so another question I'm really quite as do I contact mr. dear mr. McCarthy to get a Chromebook I would say you're going to have better luck contacting Mr McCarthy McCarthy to get a Chromebook however were and I know mr. McCarthy is slammed with everything under the sun right now but we are willing to accommodate you and do the best we can to get you this check prior because as soon as possible so I will reach out to mr. McCarthy obviously we are taking Stu and I don't know if you want to talk about that Mr McCarthy right now if you want them just to show up or you want them to make an appointment what would be easiest for you sure yeah what makes it easier for me to be honest with you guys is if you guys reach out to me through my Gmail if you guys go to our student website go to the student stabbed and go to technology help you see my online here for my room and also my Gmail if you guys reach out to me by Gmail and let me know what time works for you to come by to exchange that can help me out cuz basically all I need is your first day last name and email and if we haven't devices available we can definitely check went out to you but what makes this even faster in the process better if you guys can have a clear line of communication so I'm basically here Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. so anytime in between that you guys can come down to Gabrielino to the main office and schedule appointment with me so let me know what time works for you guys I know some of you may drive some of you may not drive and so you guys are depending on your Guardians to get you to and from school so I know some other people have Laingsburg either dies or whatever so the logistical part is something you guys will have to figure out and this is why I asked you guys to be set up a time with me that works for you so I'm here like I said Monday through Friday from 8 to 3:30 so if you need to make an appointment email me let me know what time and I can get the computer for you and all you're going to need to do is so basically been an offensive Gabrielino high school and let the security behind the gate know that you're there for a pickup and then give them your first and last and just one more question he ran and remember this is all being recorded and also I'm going to take these answers right and take these questions that I have here printed out number to make a document of it and just fill in some very basic answers but one question is and in this kind of goes back to that don't go into panic mode right away okay if your internet goes out during the test as well. timer on the test keep running I would imagine that in the Wi-Fi world right it may keep running but let's not worry about that would I would you if your if it is clear as day that you've lost signal the bars are low on your computer and it's clearly gone out right take the steps that we've given you to just make sure that you're good to go restart it right cuz remember you're okay you've saved your test right it's saved it's automatic was sick the next thing you want to do is if it's for an extended amount of time where you're going wow I saw it is tested age it's now well past the time this test should have been done I'm hoping that you would have taken my advice or Our advice and had that little phone number to college board sit up on your wall or next to your computer and you have attempted to make contact with them now how easy is that going to be that day I don't know I really don't but that is going to be your best line of defense not defense with your best Pathway to try to get an answer and try to get something fixed I would also stay prior to that right prior to the internet going out no in mr. McCarthy just I don't know if you can act like this but know that your know what your systems doing right know that you're running off of a real I'm sure you guys know at times it goes out and do like I thought it was for it's working well the entire year May 25th that just went out of course life happens things are crazy what can go wrong will go wrong sometimes but if you have a Wi-Fi that you know of up and down and up and down and up and down all day please do your best to make the adjustments that you need to prior to that you have to take that test at Grandma's house I don't know would you would you agree with that Miss McCartney I think so a couple things so it really depends on your connection for the with the students or virtual one of the things that I've been struggling with is helping you guys trying to figure out your connectivity issues while you're at all it's difficult because home life your personal wipe myself and it's not the same Wi-Fi for every student. We have different providers you know there is Spectrum internet providers and everyone will either have similar or one of the things that we kind of want to make sure that you guys are taking the precautions for the virtual students is making sure that all of your stuff is running prior to taking the exam like this is BS. it's not going to hurt you guys to spend a little extra time to make sure make sure everything is up and running so you'll maybe sugar crumble just making sure it's plugged in checking your Wi-Fi you can do go to speedtest.net check your internet speeds at home and then you know just do a couple of easy things you know depending on where your home router is I would say if you're going to be on a Wi-Fi connection Louis is that router is possible because Wi-Fi is basically like a radio wave so the farther you away from it the harder it's going to be to get that connection taking it in your room and your upstairs for example on you that your router is downstairs I would suggest that you take the time to set up something or you're comfortable downstairs and as close as possible to the your Wi-Fi router you know if it's if you can and you can have them do it I would say you are hard wire connection I know some of the Chromebooks that we've sent out don't have any fournette or inside of the Chromebook but you can definitely go to Best Buy ways to buy a dongle which will be USB on one end that connects to the computer and then an ethernet port on the side you guys could definitely use that in a hard-wired connection will be way more stable than a Wi-Fi connection but also that's depending on your internet service provider so depending on where you live you know maybe the internet is not as stable or maybe the wire connection you know maybe there's something faulty with your friend there's so many variables but one of the things that we tried to do it prevent as much of that stuff from happy so if we can do quick fixes like making sure that the Wi-Fi is connected ahead of time or making sure that you have a wife it will just ensure that when you're taking the test you won't have to worry about utility problems being miss you but I would definitely go ahead and check out those options like I said you can also find a lot of this information on the on our school website there is a whole list of internet troubleshooting protocols that I put on to the website as well so if you're going on to the technology you guys will find that stuff so there's a lot of good information there about how to combat Wi-Fi connectivity issues at all the students coming into campus Network so that just depending on our Network so depending on how many students here are then you know we kind of anticipating a lot of more students being on campus so I would say that the Wi-Fi he would be a little more viable as far as taking the test thank you mr.
